WRF30104 Certificate III in Floristry - Traineeship


Certificate III in Floristry has been designed to develop the skills and knowledge of more experienced employees in the floristry industry. To do this work you will require extensive product knowledge and specialist skills in flower design. The Certificate III will require you to develop leadership and problem solving skills. This certificate equips you to create advanced floristry designs and take your place as a leader in the florist industry.

Is this course for you?
This course is open to the general public, but particularly to experienced employees in the floristry business. This certificate can follow on from immediately from Certificate II in Floristry. There are no prerequisites.

Career opportunities

This course is designed to increase your skills in areas of the floristry industry. Participants can gain employment in the floristry industry or continue towards further education in the floristry sector with Certificate IV in Floristry. Also, persons could continue with their studies in the retail industry in general as many units of competency pertain to the Retail Training Package.

What you will learn
A traineeship in Floristry consists of Certificate III in Floristry and is expected to take 2 years. The course includes intensive block training in the classroom followed by work experience in the floristry industry and supported on the job application of skills.

Term 1
♦ The mechanics and principles of contemporary and classical design
♦ Care and handling of cut flowers
♦ Tools of the trade
♦ Floristry arrangements including posy, corsage, table arrangements
♦ Work effectively in a retail environment

Term 2
♦ Sympathy designs using a base medium
♦ Create floristry designs using wiring techniques
♦ Retail skills including shop maintenance, procedures and merchandising
♦ Customer service
♦ Recognise plants
(OR 1 day per week workshop off the job during year;
(Exit Point, Certificate II in Floristry WRF20104)

Term 3
♦ Range of contemporary and traditional bridal design
♦ Construction techniques
♦ Effectively communicating with the bride
♦ Planning a wedding
♦ The symbolism of flowers
♦ Knowledge of the floristry industry

Term 4
♦ How to create a window display
♦ Flowers for special occasions
♦ How to control stock and save money
♦ Business principles of floristry

How much study is there?
You should be able to read and understand a wide variety of texts and write a range of material for a variety of situations. You should be able to deal easily with straightforward calculations either manually and / or using a calculator. Some of the retail sections of the course will be by self-paced work book. If you need further assistance, we can offer you language, literacy, and numeracy assistance beyond the course hours for an additional fee for service.

Recognition of prior learning
Recognition of Prior Learning is available if you have experience in retail sales and in floral design. Those persons who have completed the Certificate II in Floristry will be granted credit for all 14 core units previously completed at Certificate II level. Please ask for further information.

Cost for each term is $1750.00
Cost includes: flowers, floristry materials, classroom materials and assessment. Payment plans are available. Austudy approved.
